Zack Griswold, the photographer for Rovers North headed down to Connecticut in his 2002 Discovery II to attend the 2012 Deer Lake Rally. Around 45 trucks were there, about 35 of them Land Rovers. It was a blast!
These photos were shot by Zack Griswold for Rovers North at the 2012 Vermont Overland Rally at Lillie Brook Farm in Rockingham, Vermont. Great thanks to Lillie Brook Farm for holding the event for the second year, and it as a great showing!
The 'Journey of Discovery' began today at a special event for employees at Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull manufacturing facility, where the Discovery is built. The vehicle was bid farewell by a reception that included some famous explorers and adventurers. All of whom have put their faith in the Discovery in some of the world's most challenging environments. Those who attended included Bear Grylls, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Ray Mears, Monty Halls and Polar explorer Ben Saunders.
The challenge follows in the tyre tracks of 'The First Overland Expedition' of 1955, in which a team in Series 1 Land Rovers set out fromBirminghamtoBeijing. That expedition had to divert toSingapore, but in the spirit of the original challenge the Discovery will be crossing many of Land Rover's major markets including theUK,RussiaandChina.
This year it was decided to add a "Show in the city" in order to allow non-landrover owners to admire the vehicles. Thus the First Land Rover Show was held on November 28. Participants were composed of 12 Series, including two 1957 Series 1, five Series II/IIa, both 88" and 109" SW, two Series III 109" SW and three Santana 88" Special SW. One Land Rover 110 station wagon complemented the eight Defenders: three 90 SW and Pick Up, three 110 SW, one 110 HCPU and one 130 DCHCPU. The Discoverys were represented by five Discovery 1, four Discovery 2 and two LR3. Four Freelander 1 matched the four Range Rovers: one Classic, two P38A and one Sport.
