Internationally Land Rover has a long history of support for global aid organizations.Four years ago in North America, JLR established the Defender Service Awards which provide vehicles to non-profit organizations that provide services in the following categories: Community Services, Animal Welfare, Veterans and Civil Services Outreach, Outdoor Accessibility and Education, and Search, Rescue and Community Support. Winning organizations from the US and Canada each won a Defender 130 kitted out to their specific needs.
During the recent Palisades and Eaton fires in Southern California, JLR responded to Los Angeles first responders’ request for loaner vehicles to transport crews where rescue trucks could not go. Land Rover Pasadena provided three Defenders; Stephanie Kowall, a JLR regional manager, loaned our her personal Rebelle Rally ’24 Defender 130. She told us that “my boyfriend Stan and I loaded up the Defender with Gatorade and snacks; we were eager to help.”
Nationally, large events like the Hill Country Rally [TX] and the Maine Winter Romp raise funds to benefit local non-profit service organizations. At a more local level, the 757 group in Virginia took time from their usual event preparation work to clear trails for Speaking of Horses, a non-profit that provides equestrian therapy riding for children with specialized speech needs. Founded by Ada Haensel, a speech therapist and equestrian, she told us the organization “has already benefited from the volunteer work of Land Rover enthusiasts who cleared overgrown trails for us!”
Many Land Rover enthusiasts participate in service organizations within their community. Michael T Boggs, Charlottesville, VA, provides his construction expertise as a Board member and volunteer at Building Goodness, a non-profit that renovates houses in that region as well as in Haiti and Central American nations. As well as a carpenter and project manager, Michael is a skilled and avid off roader who has contributed much to his region’s Land Rover club.
We think the service work performed at the corporate and local level is Fabulously British. If your Land Rover group provides support to non-profit organizations, we’d love to know.
