“August 8 marked the one-year anniversary of the loss of our friend and co-founder, Dave Sweetapple. The Vermont Rover Club wanted to honor Dave by doing one of his favorite things – a trail ride to a favorite spot on a high ridge with magnificent views of the Green Mountains.

It took only one email to get 15 Land Rovers and 40 friends of Dave from VT, NH, ME and MA to meet at the Green in Woodstock. We enjoyed a dinner at Ramunto’s Pizza in nearby Bridgewater, then entered a narrow trail in the Coolidge State Forest. A few miles of “water bars” [logs placed to divert water runoff] and ledges later, we arrived at Dave’s favorite vista and paused to reminisce; as I said a few words, a drone stopped buzzing as it got hung up on a tree. Someone said, “That’s Dave, up to his old tricks again!”

We enjoyed the spectacular sunset and agreed this was the spot at which we should commission the building of a stone or wood bench in Dave’s memory. From there, we headed out on a challenging trail as darkness settled in over the convoy. We credited Dave’s oversight from above for the lack of any damage on the difficult trail.

It was a great memorial event, honoring a great guy. We look forward to honoring Dave next year, same time, same place.”

We always considered Dave to be Fabulously British and congratulate Vermont Rovers for creating this trail ride in his honor.
