Letters to the Editor – September, 2010
Dear Rovers North,
One day I pulled into a filling station in Rossville, GA. I spotted a Coniston Green Defender with its soft-top removed but its roof rack laden with serious adventure gear and numerous telling decals. The driver filling the tank looked the part of a National Geographic field man or a Wild Kingdom safari operative. Being a LR nut I felt compelled to speak with him about his admirable Defender 90. He was very friendly but gently derided it, saying, “Oh, this old thing? She’s got over 300K miles on her. I’ve had several. I drive them back and forth to South America.” No wonder it didn’t appear to be a “grocery-getter.”
